I am working on a particular policy-related project, so let me tell you that writing new regulations and policy takes a lot of time, a lot of research, a lot of meetings, a lot of strategy, and a lot of spreadsheets.
Believe it or not, new laws, policies and regulations have about 25 zillion iterations before the final product is released to the public and the legislature.
Behind the scenes there are internal dialogues, dialogues with stakeholders, political calculations, copy editors, a policy wonk or two, and most definitely someone with a JD after their name.
I tell you this because I want you to know there are many many places along the way where your organization's input is needed. Whether or not you have time or understand how to provide that input is another question. If you want some help, let us know at artofpolitics at mac dot com.
