There are a multitude of federal programs economic developers use to grow their communities. My background is in economic development. Prior to working as Legislative Director at IEDC, was an Economic Development Specialist for a Chairman of an Appropriations Subcommittee.
You might be surprised just how many programs and agencies there are for economic development at the federal level. Here are just a few off the top of my head:
- Brownfield Program (Environmental Protection Agency)
- New Market Tax Credit Program (Treasury Department)
- Community Development Block Grant Program (HUD)
- Rural Business Opportunity Grant and Enterprise Grant Programs (Dept. of Agriculture, Rural Development Office)
- Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (Treasury)
- The Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Advanced Technology Program (Commerce Department)
- the Small Business Administration
- Business and Industry Loan Guarantees (USDA Rural Development)
- The Economic Development Administration (Part of the Department of Commerce)
- Home Funds (HUD)
- Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program (HUD)
