Political Consultant? What's that?

Hello Internet! When I meet people and introduce myself as a Political Consultant, I get the confused look (cocked head and/or furrowed brow), followed by a pause and a question that goes something like: "Political Consultant. What does that mean? Do you work on campaigns?"

No. I don't work on campaigns. Largely because I have worked on campaigns. In campaigns, you have to do things like: work 18 hours a day in sleet and rain, get 300 people to show up at a rally at a moment’s notice, count lawn signs by the thousands, plant lawn signs by the hundreds, eat pizza and doughnuts every day because you don't have time to purchase a real meal, organize phone banks, and give up any semblance of a social life. My skills are best utilized after the confetti has fallen.

When the campaign is over and Mayor Jane is sworn in, that's when I get to work. The Art of Politics navigates the political waters for our clients. We strategically promote our client's interests as they intersect federal, state and local government. We identify federal and state funding opportunities and successfully pitch projects to program and elected officials. And we design and execute effective communication plans for our clients, which means you don't have to write the press release announcing the good news.
